Jesus taught us about it, and for centuries the Church has faithfully defined and defended it. Protestants deny it even exists, while many Catholics fundamentally misunderstand it. It is Purgatory: that place of purifying penance where souls saved by Christ are made perfect and acceptable to spend life eternal in heaven.
In The Biblical Basis For Purgatory, author and apologist John Salza (Why Catholics Cannot Be Masons) offers the definitive scriptural explanation of this distinctively Catholic doctrine. Building on the teachings of Christ and St. Paul, he shows how the existence of a place of temporal punishment after death is not only a logical extension of what we know about the reality of sin and God's justice, but is also a supreme expression of God's love and mercy.
Although Purgatory is a place of mercy, its pains are real, and they are severe. This book does more than defend and explain Purgatory it provides a solid plan, drawn from the Church's perennial wisdom for conquering our sins by God's grace, while still on earth.
About the Author
John Salza was born on November 30, 1967, and is an apologist, author, and speaker. He is the author of Why Catholics Cannot Be Masons, The Mystery of Predestination, Masonry Unmasked, and The Biblical Basis for Purgatory. He has also appeared on Ave Maria radio and hosts the radio program Relevant Answers. John Salza is held as a leading defender of the Catholic faith, and is devoted to apologetics. I was taught by Nuns, Christian Brothers and Jusuits. I have always believed yet I find this book to be not only a great review of the teachings but a clear explanation of purgatory. One thing is for sure - I do not want to miss out on heaven!Happy Easter! (Posted on 4/5/2015)

Too long Review by Sonshine39
Since the title of the book is Biblical Basis for Purgatory, I should have expected several quotes from the bible but, I thought there were far too many. If you don't believe in its existence after 20 or so excerpts from each, the Old and New Testaments and Fathers of the Church, you will never believe it.I did, however, learn much from the section on Indulgences since the Church has neglected for so long any mention of them and their benefit especially to the Holy Souls suffering in Purgatory. Also, the information on the Apostolic Pardon granted when the Sacrament of the Sick is administered at the time of death was very important especially for those caring for a critically or terminally sick person.I would recommend the book to Catholics and non-Catholics who are not sure and are open to learning the truth of what the Church teaches and why. A book on Purgatory that actually makes sense. Review by Eric Benedict
Finally a very well written book explaining the doctrine of Purgatory that actually makes perfect sense. While there are still some verses that I would like examined (I've written the author about them to hopefully include in a future edition) this book proved well worth my money and I suggest reading it if you seriously want to know "WHY" we (Catholics) believe this doctrine to be true. Good Book with Some Good answers Review by Sandy Askey-Adams
I like this book and do recommend it as a book to buy when searching for information on Purgatory.SO many people do not believe in Purgatory today and I can understand that reasoning. But, this book gives good reasons why it does exist. We all commit sins and ask forgiveness...but we all have to make amends for those sins so we feel worthy of even seeing the face of God.Purgatory is a temporary place to stop and make up for those sins on our way to Heaven. You might be surprised at how many people are still sitting in purgatory over decades and centuries. All they need are our prayers and sacrifices offered for them. They cannot pray for themselves, but they can pray for us.And Yes, there really is a hell and a Satan. This is something else people do not care to know. But is surely obvious by all the evil in the world. (Posted on 8/29/2013)
Now I understand how gold came to be Review by Hardy Fajardo
This book made me understand the fire of love. It hurts but it saves. Just like the process how gold and diamonds are made. I can imagine the heat. I know hot it feels when i gargle using a mouthwash mint after I had a tooth cleaning. It hurts but I feel fresh after. (Posted on 3/10/2013)
A good reference book for Opologetics Review by James Demars
This is one of my favorite study books when defending the doctrine to Protestant's who do not believe that purgatory is real. It is in the Bible, and this book will prove it. (Posted on 1/4/2013)
OOPS! Haven't got to it yet. Review by Cooler "James E. Mann , SGT. (U.S. Army ) RET."
I haven't been able to read it yet, but I would say anything book that can provide you with some kind of answer should be something to read. I'll have to make the time though to sit down with my kindle and read it. Sorry thats the only answer I can provide right now. (Posted on 11/17/2012)

Wow! Get this book Review by Book Lover in the Midwest
Amazing book. It gives the biblical basis for purgatory. Oral history is where the bible orignated. Naturally, some oral history was so widely known and accepted and it wasn't written - but it was referred to in the natural course of conversation. This book is for every Catholic. Don't pass this one up. (Posted on 11/29/2011)
BUY IT BUY IT BUY IT BUY IT Review by Jerry
Purgatory is real.Buy this book and1) Wake up.2) Knock off centuries of time you would have otherwise been burned and tormented there.3) It is scriptural4) A must read for every human being. (most people will sadly go to hell, and of the few who go to heaven, most go to Purgatory first).5) For all of those who wondered where God's justice, and mercy meet, it is here: PURGATORY!pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease buy this book, you will have the opportunity to take time off from that dreadful place (state of existence), really!Since Purgatory is a state of existence, there is no measure of time, and seconds there feels like years, minutes feel like centuries, and some people are there until the end of the world (then Purgatory ceases to exist, and then it is just Heaven) (those in hell stay in hell forever, READ THIS BOOK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)God bless you, and take time off of your Purgatory time, this is SO SERIOUS.
